Chiara Isotton, soprano

Biography

Chiara Isotton has been praised for her ‘rich, full tone’ and has become a favourite among audiences at La Scala, the iconic Milanese opera house, where she has appeared for the last two seasons. Chiara has shared the house’s stage with some of the great singers of our time, including Anna Netrebko, Edita Gruberová, Leo Nucci and Ailyn Pérez.

Her soprano roles at La Scala have included Flora in La Traviata, Gertud in Hänsel und Gretel, Giovanna in Rigoletto, Pisana in I Due Foscari and the High Priestess in Aida under the baton of Zubin Mehta. The last two productions were recorded for international DVD and Blu-Ray release.

In 2013 Chiara won first prize at the European Community Competition for Young Singers organized by the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto, where she was subsequently engaged to sing Mimì in Puccini’s La bohème and the title role in the same composer’s Tosca. Four years earlier she was awarded a scholarship at the Toti dal Monte International Singing Competition in Treviso, where she attended master-classes with Regina Resnik.

Chiara has appeared as a soloist at the Hermitage Music Festival in St Petersburg, the Wienersängerknaben Auditorium in Vienna, the Hong Kong Cultural Center, the State Center in New Brunswick, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the Teatro Grande in Brescia, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Milan among other prestigious venues. She has performed under renowned conductors including Fabio Luisi, Marc Armiliato, Carlo Rizzi and Marc Albrecht.

Chiara was born in 1985 in Belluno. She graduated from the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in Venice, continuing her studies with William Matteuzzi and Roberto Scandiuzzi and attending courses at the Chigiana Music Academy with Renato Bruson. In June 2015 she graduated from La Scala’s specialist training institute, the Accademia di perfezionamento per Cantanti Lirici.
