Biography

Swedish born Daniel Carlsson (1980) has studied in Vadstena, Sweden and the Royal Danish Music Academy with Margrethe Enevold in Copenhagen. He graduated as counter tenor in 2009. Further studies and master classes with Martin Isepp, Jill Feldman, Roger Vignoles, Paul Esswood and Richard Levitt, who was Andreas Scholl's teacher for many years.

Engagements in 16/17 include a role in FAIRY QUEEN at the Royal Opera, Copenhagen, a role in David Bruce's opera NOTHING and numerous concert engagements. He has also been reinvited by the reknown Eric Ericsson Choir. In spring 2016 Daniel Carlsson was soloist in the premiere of Sven-David Sandström's St. Matthew Passion. The piece was performed in Germany, Denmark and Sweden.

In 14/15 he was soloist in Bach: Christmas Oratorio with Odense Symphony Orchestra, Denmark and he was engaged by the Eric Ericsson Choir as soloist in St. Matthew Passion in Stockholm Concert Hall. He had the main role in Moto Osada's new opera s"The Son of Heaven" at Vadstena, Sweden in summer 2015.

Other recent engagements include Händel's Messiah and Bach B-minor Mass with South Jutland Symphony Orchestra, Charpentier's Messe de Morts in the Cuenca Baroque Festival. sang Amor/L'INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA at Drottningholm Slottsteater, Stockholm. In the Musikfestival Sanssouci in Potsdam, 2010 he sang Nearco/CALANDRO. The following year he again participated in L'INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA but in a new role: Nero. Folkoperan in Stockholm Sweden invited Daniel to sing Tolemaios/GIULIO CESARE in 2013. Other engagements include Farman in the new opera FALLING AWAKE by Lasse Schwanenflügel Piasecki in the ILT Festival, Aarhus, Oberon/MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM at Läckö Slott, Sweden. In 2013/14 Daniel participated in a staged version of Britten's Canticle II "Abraham and Isaac" at the Gothenburg Opera. In 14/15 he was soloist in Bach: Christmas Oratorio with Odense Symphony Orchestra, Denmark and he was engaged by the Eric Ericsson Choir as soloist in St. Matthew Passion in Stockholm Concert Hall. Daniel has worked with conductors like Stephen Layton, Philip Pickett, Mark Tatlow, Olof Boman, Joakim Unander, Benjamin Bayl and Simon Phipps.
Other collaborations on a regular basis includes projects with the composer and artist Line Törnhöj. He performed her new piece "Portrait" in the Danish Radio in spring 2013.

Swedish

Svenska kontratenoren Daniel Carlsson (f. 1980) påbörjade, efter två års förberedande sångstudier på Vadstena Folkhögskolas musiklinje, sina sångstudier hos Margrete Enevold på Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium i 2002 och tog sin examen i 2009. Daniel har dessutom medverkat i master classes för Martin Isepp, Jill Feldman, Roger Vignoles och Paul Esswood och har även tagit privatlektioner för Richard Levitt, som var Andreas Scholls lärare i många år.

I 14/15 har Daniel varit solist i Bachs Juloratorium med Odense Symfoniorkester i Danmark, och han ska även vara solist med Eric Ericssons Kör i Mattäuspassionen i Stockholms Konserthus. Han kommer ochså att ha en huvudroll i Moto Osadas nya opera ”The Son of Heaven” i Vadstena, Sverige under sommaren 2015.

Nyligen har Daniel Carlsson sjungit Händels Messias och Bachs B-moll Mässa med Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester och Charpentiers Messe de Morts på Cuenca Baroque Festival. I 2009 sjöng han Amor/L'Incoronazione di Poppea på Drottningholm Slottsteater i Stockholm och i 2010 gjorde han Nearco/Calandro på Musikfestival Sanssouci i Potsdam. Året efter sjöng han L'Incoronazione di Poppea igen men då i rollen som Nero. I 2013 sjöng Daniel Tolemaios/Giulio Cesare på Folkoperan i Stockholm.

Därutöver gjorde Daniel rollen som Farman i nya operan Falling Awake av Lasse Schwanenflügel Piasecki på ILT Festivalen i Aarhus och Oberon/Midsummer Night’s Dream på Läckö Slott. I 2013/14 var Daniel med i en scenisk version av Brittens Canticle II "Abraham and Isaac" på Göteborgsoperan.

Daniel Carlsson har sjungit med dirigenter som Stephen Layton, Philip Pickett, Mark Tatlow, Olof Boman, Joakim Unander, Benjamin Bayl och Simon Phipps.
Daniel samarbetar dessutom regelbundet med tonsättare och artist Line Törnhöj, och han framförde hennes senaste verk ”Portrait” i Danmarks Radio i Köpenhamn på våren 2013.
