Dmitrii Bashkirov

Biography

Dmitrii Bashkirov is a sought after tenor in repertoire from Lehár to Rimsky-Korsakov. A multi award-winner, he is a laureate of the Boris Shtokolov International Vocal Competition in St Petersburg (First Prize, 2008), the Rachmaninoff International Vocal Competition in Rostov-on-Don (Second Prize, 2009) and the Viva Opera International Festival of Opera Art in Magnitogorsk (2015, Diploma). In 2012, he was a grant holder at the iconic Bayreuth Festival in Germany.

Dmitrii was born in Baku in 1980 and attended the Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory where he studied under Professor AM Sedov. In 2003 he became a soloist at the Nizhny Novgorod Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet and made his debut at the Boldino Autumn Festival as the simpleton in Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov. In 2004 he became a principal artist of the Republic of Karelia State Music Theatre in Petrozavodsk and from 2005 to 2016 he was a soloist of the Voronezh State Opera and Ballet Theatre.

As a member of Helikon Opera in Moscow since 2016, Dmitrii’s roles have included Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Beppe in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, Eisenstein in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, the Indian Merchant in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sadko, the title role in Sergunin’s Dr Haass, Count Orlov in Tukhmanov’s Tsarina and Calaf in Puccini’s Turandot, for which he was nominated for a Golden Mask, Russia’s National Theatre Award. At other houses, his roles have included The Duke in Rigoletto, Alfred in La Traviata, Cassio in Othello, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Igorevich in Prince Igor and Tamino in The Magic Flute.

In 2009, Dmitrii took part in the gala concert Young Soloists of the National Orchestra of Russia under the patronage of Plácido Domingo. The following year he participated in concerts of the Russian Cultural Center in Bratislava and Vienna, and in 2011 performed a solo concert with the Tambov State Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a member of the of the Tenors of the XXI Century project.

Dmitrii is an experienced oratorio singer and has participated in performances of Rachmaninoff’s The Bells, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Schubert’s Mass in G and Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde. His song repertoire includes Rachmaninoff’s Romances, Schubert’s Dichterliebe and Sviridov’s Poem in Memory of Sergey Esenin.
