Biography

Marie Rosenmir’s unusual route to conducting via an impressive career as a professional singer has made her an operatic and orchestral leader of rare sensitivity and versatility. She has been praised for her musical charisma, diligence, vibrancy and character and most significantly for the space, breadth and detail with which her performances unfold.

Marie began her conducting career on the music staff of the Gothenburg Opera and went on to lead productions at Folkoperan in Stockholm. This season she makes her conducting debut at the Royal Swedish Opera. As a symphonic conductor Marie works with many of the leading orchestras in Sweden including the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, the Gothenburg Symphony, the Norrköping Symphony and the Gävle Symphony Orchestras. She also works regularly with the Stockholm Sinfonietta, the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, the Wermland Opera Orchestra and the Gothenburg and Stockholm Wind Orchestras.

Outside Sweden, Marie has conducted the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (London), the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra (Olomouc) and the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra (Zlin).

Marie’s repertoire ranges from the music of the seventeenth century to the music of the future. She has premiered several orchestral works as a conductor and a number of vocal works as a singer, and is one of the founders of the contemporary music group Inversion. With KammarensembleN Marie has made recordings of important new works from Sweden for broadcasters SVT and SR.

Marie received the Swedish Conductor’s Award in 2006 and was awarded the Marianne and Sigvard Bernadotte Arts Fund Award in the same year. As a singer, she won both First Prize and the Audience Prize at the 2004 Malmö Vocal Competition and was taught by some of the greatest names in the field, Elisabeth Söderström, Thomas Quasthoff and Graham Johnson among them. Her conducting tutors have included Jorma Panula, Alexander Polischuk and Alan Gilbert.

Marie’s communicative strengths were first cited by critics at the time of her professional vocal debut as Aricie in Rameau’s Hippolyte et Aricie in Stockholm. She is a passionate advocate for openness and excellence in the field of music, and was chosen by Volvo to front their major advertising campaign Life is in the Details in 2016. She signed to Nordic Artists Management the same year.
